Zelma Banner, age 94, passed away peacefully on Monday September 22, 2025.
She was born and raised in South Brunswick but spent much of her adult life in Chesterfield County. She was a beautician for many years and retired from the J.C. Penney Salon.
Mrs. Banner is survived by her son, Melvin Doxtator Jr.; three grandchildren, Tara Jackson & husband, Ryan Jackson, Melinda Cherrington & husband, Dustyn Cherrington, and Melvin William Doxtator III; seven great grandchildren, Kristen Walker and Wesley, Amber Bishop and Tristin, Samantha Jackson, Jordan Jackson, Logan Cherrington, Melayna Cherrington, and Hudson Cherrington; five great great grandchildren, Kinsley, Maverick, Calaway, Ryleigh, and Raycen. She is also survived by two devoted nieces, Patricia Osburn and Alisa Shearin.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter L. Moore & Fannie Sue Moore, Husband Crawford Banner, her sister Catherine Collins (& Parker) and her brother Wade Moore (& Louise) and niece Cathy Mattox.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Matthews Chapel Methodist Church (1538 Matthews Chapel Road, Lawrenceville, VA 23868) followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
