Wilbur Waverly Brockwell, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 1, 2026, in Lawrenceville, VA. Born on June 11, 1934, in Brunswick County, VA, he was the son of the late Wilbur Waverly Brockwell Sr. and Myrtle Poarch Brockwell.
Wilbur lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, service, faith, humor, and his love for his church. He graduated from Lawrenceville High School and went on to a career with A&P in the grocery business. Throughout his life, he was especially proud of his reputation as a Brunswick Stew Master. He was a charter life member of the Brunswick Volunteer Rescue Squad and member of the Lawrenceville Jaycees and enjoyed coaching their little league team. He was a member of the Lions Club and participated in their annual Shrimp Festival for many years. He was a Deacon and trustee at his church for many years.
Outside of his work, Wilbur found joy in hobbies, church, community activities, travel, gardening, sports, and especially time with family. He was proud of his golf game with accomplishments including two holes- in one and won many club championships. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, generosity, wisdom, storytelling, impeccable memory, and his faith in God.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years Phyllis Cannon Brockwell; his son Roger Dale Brockwell (Mary) and daughter Betsy Woolridge (Don) and their; grandchildren Roger, Robert and Ryan Brockwell. Jessi Scales, Adam Woolridge and great-grandchildren Cameron, Kaden, Maddie, Gemma, Kelly, Wilks and Emmerson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday October 3, 2026, at Lawrenceville Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, VA, followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at home after the interment service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lawrenceville Baptist Church.
