We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Thomas Wayne Kirkland (TK) on July 5, 2025 at the age of 74 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Petersburg, VA on March 7, 1951 and resided in Dinwiddie, VA for more than 40 years until his passing.
He started his career with a plumbing internship through Tri-City Plumbing and moved to a position of plumber/steamfitter with Southside Virginia Training Center/Central State Hospital where he worked for 45 years and retired in 2020 as Maintenance Supervisor.
Through the years he enjoyed playing football, softball, listening to “oldies but goodies” music and taking sunrise walks on the beach.
He was pre-deceased by his Parents, Leroy and Lorena Jackson Kirkland and Nephew, Ronald Perdue.
He is survived and missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Donna Marie Kohout Kirkland, Step-son Brian Jennings and wife Sara, Step-Grandsons Brayden and Blake Jennings, Brother Larry Ray Kirkland, Brother-in-law/Sister-in-law Richard & Phyllis Perdue.
His memory lives on with his Nephews - Michael Perdue, Larry Ray Kirkland, Jr. and wife Katelyn, Nieces – Michelle Perdue Hayden, Jean Michelle Kirkland Smith and husband Mike, Great-Nephews – Riley Kirkland, Grayson Smith, Great-Nieces – Savannah, Emily and Willow Smith, EmmaRae Kirkland, Aunt, Janet Jackson, and numerous cousins.
There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are for our friends and neighbors who are always there for us and the comfort and care provided by Amedisys Home Health Care and ACG Hospice.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved and remembered.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at 1:00 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church Parish Hall, 7310 Squirrel Level Rd, North Dinwiddie, VA 23805.
Donations in his memory may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Children, or Dinwiddie Fire & EMS Company 1.
