Thomas Fitzgerald Edmunds, Jr.

August 18, 1938 — March 11, 2026

"The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him."

-Proverbs 20:7

Thomas (Tom) Fitzgerald Edmunds, Jr, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, surrounded by his family, at his home in McKenney, Virginia. Tom was born on August 18, 1938 in McKenney to the late Thomas and Lucy (McIlwaine) Edmunds. At just 18 years old, Tom married his middle school sweetheart, Cecelia (Cece) Powers and they were inseparable for almost 70 years. They have five children: Thomas “Tommy” Fitzgerald Edmunds, III (Susan), Anne Hardy Edmunds Liptak (John), William “Bill” McIlwaine Edmunds (Cindy), Cecelia Lynn Edmunds Holden (Mark) and John Powers Edmunds (Michelle). They are also blessed by 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Tom was known as a dedicated, hard-working family man. This energy and drive to succeed enabled him to be successful first in the Marine Corps and then in a variety of jobs including, policeman, Federal Reserve employee, and insurance salesman. Following these jobs, Tom moved the family back to the family farm, “Hillcrest” in McKenney to help run the dairy operation. His last working years were spent in his “dream job”– owning and operating his own trucking company, Edmunds Trucking. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working with his son, John, at Hillcrest Transportation.

Tom was a lifelong member of Concord Presbyterian Church in Rawlings, Virginia where he served in various roles including as an Elder and Superintendent of Sunday School.

Tom loved people and he never met a stranger. He would talk with anyone at any time about anything, especially farming, cars and politics. Above all, Tom loved his family, his church and his community and left a lasting legacy for all to follow.

In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his sisters: Mary Plummer Humphrey, Lucy Ann Traynham and Jane Powers.
