Terry R. Plank Sr., 77, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at his home on Lake Gaston in Valentines, Virginia. Born on February 15, 1948, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, Terry spent most of his life in Hampton, Virginia, where he worked for the phone company and built a reputation as a self-taught problem solver who could fix just about anything.
Terry was a man of quiet strength and deep devotion. He found joy on the water, casting lines and soaking in the serenity of fishing, and cherished time at the ballfields watching his children play softball and baseball. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shelia, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and resilience. Together, they faced cancer with courage and grace.
He is survived by his children, Breea Staton and T.R. Plank; his son-in-law, Ray Staton; his grandchildren, Bailey Staton, Samantha Plank, and Austin Plank; his brother, Skip Plank; and his sisters-in-law, Terry Leigh Brubaker and Carol Faye Morgan, along with their families. Terry’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he raised.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to his caregivers, Susan and Dolores, and his hospice nurses, Tammy and Angie, for their exceptional love and support during his final months.
In accordance with Terry’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. A private celebration of life will be held to honor his memory.
Donations in honor of Terry and Shelia may be made to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, continuing their fight in spirit. The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love and support from friends, neighbors, and the community during this time.
