Smithy Gordon Clary

Smithy Gordon Clary, age 87, of Lawrenceville, VA passed away March 4, 2023.  He is the son of the late Harvie and Annie Clary.  Smithy was a U. S. Navy Veteran and life-long member of Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church.  He loved his family and woodworking.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Buckner Clary; brothers, Randolph and Eugene Clary; sisters, Elsie Walton and Barbara Clary; and sons-in-law, Joseph Wayne Grimsley, Jr. and Wayne Yates, Jr.  He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Yates Grimsley and Andrea Walker and husband Will; his grandchildren, Rachel and Madelyn Walker; his brother, Clarence “Teeny” Clary; his sisters, Phyllis Martin and Audrey Yeager; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church c/o Rev. Kyle Bass, 3717 Triplet Road, Lawrenceville, VA 23868.  Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville will be handling the arrangements.
