Russell Edwin Harris

Russell Edwin Harris, born June 29, 1935 to the late Mary and Edwin Harris, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 2, 2018. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David and John and sons-in-law, Reed Jackson and Rick Baxley. He is survived by his wife, Maggie; children, David, Deborah Jackson, Cheryl Toll, Jan Baxley, and Donna Puryear (Doug); step-children, Lisa Beck, Kim Miller; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucie Buchanan (Duncan), Susan Nichols (Frank), and Mary Margaret Dickerson; and special friends, Buck and Barbara Jones and Linda Pearson. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church. He was an avid sports fan and bowled many years in the Richmond area and was inducted into the Richmond Bowling Hall of Fame in 2015. He enjoyed traveling and for many years worked as an extra in local movies where he met many wonderful friends. He worked for several engineering firms in Richmond and retired in 2000 from Bohannon, Staley and Associates. He retired from the Army National Guard with 20 years of service. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Christian Church, Danieltown, VA with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 at the church, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the New Hope Christian Church Building Fund, 977 Flat Rock Rd, Alberta, VA 23821.
