Robert David Abernathy

Robert David Abernathy, age 77, a lifelong resident of Alberta, VA, passed away at his home on August 28, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Marie Abernathy; his wife, Cathy Abernathy; and a sister, Connie Greene.

David is survived by his daughter, Janie Elizabeth Abernathy-Garrand (Steve) of Plattsburgh, NY; a sister, Gail Abernathy Fathergill (Russ) of Calabash, NC; two brothers, Roger “Gene” Abernathy (Linda) of Mechanicsville, VA and Michael Abernathy of Highland Springs, VA.

David retired after many years as a truck driver for AmeriGas and Parker Oil. He was a long-time member of Red Oak Ruritan Club and a lifetime member of Alberta Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed restoring and showing off his antique tractors.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Alberta, VA. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
