Nelson Earle Jones

Nelson Earle Jones, age 84, a lifelong resident of Rawlings, VA, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Okley and Myrtle Clary Jones; his paternal grandparents, Virgil Leon and Maria Coleman Jones; maternal grandparents, Bernard C., Sr. and Thelma Harris Clary; and a son, Melvin Lee Jones.

Mr. Jones was a lifelong tobacco farmer and a lifelong member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Rawlings. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virgie Satterwhite Jones; his children, Nelson Wade Jones and wife, Deborah, Theresa Jones Crenshaw and husband, J.B., Kelvin Leon Jones, and Elizabeth “Liz” Jones Lynch and husband, Howard; grandchildren, Lauren (Buster), Jacklyn (Stephen), Emily (Jacob), James (Amanda), Jacob, Everett, and Landon; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Kyrstin, Emmett, Chelsea, Collins, and Addilyn; a brother, Raye Jones (Yvonne); a sister, Faye Manson (Tom); a special cousin and close friend, Donnie Cheely, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA, followed by a private interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
