Mary Jane Turner Weeks

September 13, 1934 — February 21, 2026

Mary Jane Weeks, age 91, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Born in Roanoke, VA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Draxie Turner.

A graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, she moved to this area to work for Allied Chemical – Honeywell Research and Development Analytical as a Senior Lab Technician, retiring after 35 years of service.

Mary Jane was a long-time member of Matoaca Baptist Church where she taught older children for two generations of the church family, always interested in how they were serving the Lord and grateful for having a small part in their spiritual growth. She sang in the church choir and was active in Women on Mission. In the 80’s, she was a member of the Assist Team for the Petersburg Baptist Association, supporting churches in the area with Sunday School work and traveled to California with Lifeway to improve ways to reach older children for Christ. Mary Jane traveled to Europe and South America with mission teams as well as surrounding states. She dearly loved her church family and was always grateful for their encouragement.

Mary Jane loved working in the yard and flowers, tending to all nature in her surroundings which was evident in some of her poetry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Draxie L. Turner; two sons, Dirk A. Weeks and Mitchell J. Weeks; a brother, David Turner; six sisters, Audrey Short, Hazel LaPrade, Jackie Smith, Ann Dennis, Jean Crowder, and Nancy Tingler; four nieces, Donna Sue Lassiter, Becky Turner, Kathy Jones, and Patricia Kiker; six nephews, Donald Short, Michael Turner, Steve Turner, Thomas Beckner, Ricky Petty, and Danny Ray Giles.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, David W. Weeks (Janett); grandson, Matthew Clark Weeks; granddaughters, Brandi Higginbotham (Dallas), Brittni Hassell (Sterling), and Amanda Clark Weeks; five great-grandchildren who she loved more than too much, Alexandria Jane and Reese Higginbotham, Audrey Rose, Ellie Jack, and Josie Hassell all of Chesterfield; a sister, Marlene Leech. She is also survived by wonderful nieces and nephews who she loved as her own and cherished all sister-friends in Christ and her church family.
