Lynn Dorsett Barnes

Lynn Dorsett Barnes, age 73, of Dolphin, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025. Born on July 15, 1951, Lynn lived a life devoted to education, family, faith, and service.

Lynn was a lifelong teacher whose dedication shaped countless students’ lives throughout her career. Her passion for learning, kindness, and steady encouragement left a lasting mark on all who knew her. She loved to travel and found great joy in exploring new places and experiencing the beauty of the world around her.

Deeply committed to her faith and community, Lynn was a member of Lawrenceville Methodist Church and generously gave her time to several community organizations close to her heart. She was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for key woman educators.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, William Barnes; her parents, John and Marian Dorsett; her brother, Steve Dorsett; and her father-in-law, Charles Barnes.

Lynn is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Barnes; her son, Jonathan Barnes and his wife Jennifer; her cherished granddaughters, Charlotte and Audrey Barnes; her mother-in-law, Wilhelmina Barnes; and her niece, Paige Gibbs. Her warmth, wisdom, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of her family and all those who have known her.

A service to honor Lynn’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Liberty Church in Dolphin, VA. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Women of Faith at Lawrenceville UMC, P.O. Box 2, Lawrenceville, VA 23868. Her memory will forever be a blessing.
