Luby Garner Chandler III

May 14, 1958 — April 9, 2026

Luby G. Chandler III, age 67, of Lawrenceville, Virginia, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at home after a brief illness. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Luby is survived by his loving wife, Sue C. Chandler, with whom he shared a life full of love and memories. He was a proud father of his bonus daughter, Jordan Sumpter (Jake) of Dolphin, VA, and father to Lue Chandler (Amber) of Chesterfield, VA, and Crystal Brown (Ryan) of Powhatan, VA. He was a grandfather to Ayden Chandler, Jack Chandler, Madyson Kelley, and Connor Brown.

He is also survived by his sisters, Judy Barnes of Lawrenceville, VA, and Mary Anne Owen (Curt) of Stony Creek, VA; his niece, Lauren Jernigan(Roland); his nephews, Jonathan Owen, Trey Hardy, and David Barnes; and two great-nephews Wyatt Jernigan and Mason Hardy. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Denise Williams of South Hill, VA, Lisa Clary of South Hill, VA, and Gwen Painter (Gary) of Dolphin, VA; and his brother-in-law, Eric Clary (Reilly) of Richmond, VA. Luby is also remembered by his “brother from another mother,” Mike Greene, with whom he shared many memorable trips to Daytona Beach, Florida for Bike Week, along with dear friends the late Jack Greene and Randy Spence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luby and Richie Chandler; his son, Brandon Chandler; his nephew, Wayne Owen; and his brothers-in-law, Mike Barnes and Robbie Williams.

Luby dedicated 24 years of his career to Pecht Distributors, where he built lasting friendships and found not only a workplace, but a second family. It was also there that he met the love of his life, Sue, and together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and unwavering support.

He had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, was a fan of John Wayne, and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—especially hot dogs and cheeseburgers with mustard and onions. He adored his four-legged companions, Buddy, Rudy, Junie, Duke, Scout, Toby, and Tessa, who brought him constant joy. Above all, Luby loved his wife and family, and the life they built together was his greatest pride.
