Juanita Hayes Thompson “Nita,” age 71, of DeWitt, VA, took her walk to be with the Lord peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Born August 6, 1953 to the late Alfred Dennis and Dorothy Chavis Hayes.
She was a member of Cut Banks Baptist Church where she was baptized in the Nottoway River at an early age. She was a caring and giving mom, nanny, great-nanny, sister and friend to all that knew and loved her. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, watching the hummingbirds and spending time with family.
Nita is survived by her two children, Angela (Donald) Poole, and Jason (Shannon) Doyle, five grandchildren, Timothy (Miranda) Doyle, Roy (Patricia) Poole, III, Sierra (Zack) Poole, Autumn (Bryce) Doyle, and Hunter Doyle, seven great-grandchildren and seven siblings, Donald Hayes, Michael Hayes, Joseph Hayes, Robert Hayes, Sharon Martin, Alfred Hayes, and Cynthia Neville, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Terry Morgan for the compassionate care she provided, the nurses from Amedysis Hospice, Rita Walker, the sweet lady that became a dear friend that drove her to dialysis twice a week, and the staff at US Renal of Colonial Heights, VA.
Services will be held Monday, June 2, 2025 at Cut Banks Baptist Church, 24203 Cutbank Road, McKenney, VA 23872. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. A graveside service officiated by Pastor Stan Allen will begin at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation (support.nkdo.org) or Amedysis Hospice (amedysis.com), Blackstone, VA location, in memory of Juanita H. Thompson.
