Joyce Archer Moore

Joyce Archer Moore, age 90, of Matoaca, VA, passed away Friday, October 30, 2026.

Born in Ettrick, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Claggett and Ina Mae Worley Archer. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Shirley Shue and Nancy Valenta; her brother, Charles “Pickle” Archer; and her son-in-law, Maynard Watson.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Moore was talented in the art of handwork, especially crochet and cross stitch. She made many baby blankets and other special items to include an award-winning cross stitching of the original Ettrick Elementary School.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, James Allen Moore; her children, Vicky Watson, Phillip Moore and wife, Jane, and Phyllis Sloan and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Michelle Knott (Oscar), Jason Burton (Ashley), Kasey Oduyoye (Pious), Mallory Bowling (Travis), Phillip Moore (Katie), and Ashley Moore (Clarke Lee), 10 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Second Branch Baptist Church, 12217 Second Branch Road, Chesterfield, VA 23838, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
