Jamie Lee Kidd

January 27, 1985 — May 30, 2025

In the early morning hours of Friday, May 30, 2025, our Lord and Savior called on Jamie Lee Kidd, “Big Country,” come home my child, come home – at a young 40 years old, he did just that. He was no doubt greeted by many loved ones who had gone before him, to include his brother Allen, paternal grandparents William and Bernice Taylor, Sr., maternal grandparents Daniel and Iva Kidd, uncles – Jesse Taylor, Bobby Kidd, Richard Kidd Jr., Phillip Kidd, Russell Kidd, and Richard Kidd, Sr., an aunt Alease Wray, and his fur son Chance.

Jamie was a man who never met a stranger. He loved music and he loved sports – from playing football, baseball, and basketball at Brunswick Sr. High School, to playing in the summer men’s softball league, to watching his favorite teams the Dallas Cowboys, UNC Tar Heels and the Boston Red Sox play on TV. After he graduated in 2004 from Brunswick Sr. High School, he went to work at several Department of Corrections facilities including GEO, Greensville, Lawrenceville, Jarratt and earning Lieutenant at Meherrin River Regional Jail.

Family was everything to him, blood or not. If he said you were family, you were family. If he said he loved you, he loved you. He was guaranteed to be laughing, smiling and profiling – whether he was at Fat Nanny’s hanging out; having a drink and shooting pool in the man cave with some of his brothers Cory, Royce and many more; spending time with his longtime and loyal friend Chanel; visiting his cousins Baretta, Rachel and family in Alabama; shooting the bull with cousins James, Timmy and Elizabeth, while they visited to help him with whatever he needed at the time; or swimming at his uncle Bobby’s and aunt Juanita’s with his cousins Craig and Thomas. He sure did love some fishing with uncles Bobby and Jesse too. A couple of his favorite sayings were “all gas, no brakes,” and “it is what it is.”

He leaves to cherish fond memories: his mother Rebecca “Becky” Kidd; father William Taylor, Jr.; children – Christopher Ranes and Emma Ranes; two grandsons (and a grandchild to come); nephew Maddox and niece Sophia; aunts – Mary, Myrtis, Juanita, and Daisie; grandma Tina B.; Godmother Sheila; Godsiblings – Katheryn, Savanna, Jarrett Barker& Stephanie Rhodes; Godson Christian Staten; fur daughters – Willow and Luna; as well as numerous cousins, friends, and classmates.

A special thank you to those who helped take care of and visited Jamie over the last few years. It is greatly appreciated, more than you will ever know. To all who texted, called, visited, donated, or prayed for us during this very difficult time, we thank you as well. Your generosity and compassion will always be remembered. He loved you all dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA.
