Gertrude Mae Wheeler

Gertrude Mae Wheeler, age 81, a lifelong resident of Gasburg, VA, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fenton and Susie Poythress; her husband of 42 years, James Everette Wheeler; brothers, Howard Poythress and Thomas Poythress; sisters, Rebecca Mae Poythress and Ruby Ogburn.

Mrs. Wheeler is survived by her children, Patricia Spence (David), Becky Farmer (Dwayne), Connie Wheeler, and J.C. Wheeler; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Poythress Major, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. The family would like to thank the staff of Lawrenceville Health & Rehabilitation for their care and support.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church followed by interment at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
