Geraldine Barker Spence

Geraldine Barker Spence, age 86, of Lawrenceville, VA, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025.

The daughter of the late John Baynes and Laura Lewis Barker, Geraldine grew up on the family farm in Lunenburg, VA, prior to moving to Dolphin, VA. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Wyatt Spence; a brother, Wilbur Lee Barker; and a sister, Joyce B. Kennedy.

Her greatest joy was her family and friends, and the times she spent with them. She was known as a wonderful cook and shared delicious food and homemade jams with her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in taking care of her lawn and roses.

Mrs. Spence is survived by her children, Rickey Alan Spence and Susan Kay Spence; a granddaughter, Aleshia Love Bathurst and husband, Robby; great-granddaughters, Makayla and Peyton; a brother, John B. Barker and wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Nan Ellen Finch; brother-in-law, Darrell Spence and wife, Frances, as well as her extended Barker family, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, “Smut.”

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA, followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
