George R. Rapp of Dinwiddie, Va. passed away peacefully on March 12, 2023 with family at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents George Joseph Christian Rapp (Chris) and Jeanne E. Rapp. George is survived by his wife of 56 years Betty S. Rapp; brothers Dr. Robert S. Rapp (Judy) of Albany, Oregon and William Rapp (Carolyne) of Seven Lakes, North Carolina; two sons George M. Rapp (Leavelle) and Daniel S. Rapp (Mary Marshall) both of Dinwiddie; grandchildren Miles, Hannah and Ellie Rapp and sister-in-law Peggy B. Sturt. George graduated from the University of Richmond where he was a three year letterman in football and track. He was also a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.
He began his career in education as a teacher at Dinwiddie High School where he started the football and track programs. He was also Principal of Midway Elementary School for 17 years. George was a member and past Elder of Bott Memorial Presbyterian Church. He also served as Secretary of the Rocky Run Ruritan Club for the past 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren and watching them participate in their sports and activities. He also loved having his grandchildren and grandpups next door.
He had fond memories of his former teammates, players and coaches; especially the relationships he developed with the students and staff of Midway Elementary School.
George loved the outdoors and spent much of his time “piddling” outdoors in the yard with his wife or in his shed making wood projects for others.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Bott Memorial Presbyterian Church followed by interment in the church cemetery.
