Eugene Walton Kleis, Sr.

Eugene Walton Kleis, Sr., age 77, a lifelong resident of Freeman, VA, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Milred Norwood Kleis; brothers, Wendell Kleis, Olney Kleis, and Wayne Kleis.

Mr. Kleis was raised on a tobacco farm in Brunswick County. He enjoyed driving the tractor, cutting grass, and fishing. He retired from Georgia Pacific in 2013 as a refiner operator.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marjorie Coggins Kleis; a son, Eugene Kleis, Jr.; sisters, Shelby Kleis Taylor and Patricia Kleis Fitzgerald; sisters-in-law, June Kleis, Diane Kleis, and Betty Kleis; his cat “Sugar” as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Edgerton Memorial Cemetery, 120 County Pond Road, Lawrenceville, VA 23868.
