Dorothy Lee Roberts Ogburn Baugh

November 9, 1930 — May 22, 2024

Dorothy Lee Roberts Ogburn Baugh, known as “Dot,” escaped the pervasive grasp of Alzheimer’s disease on May 22, 2024. She was born on November 9, 1930 on the family farm near McKenney, VA where she lived until she graduated from Sunnyside-McKenney High School.  Dot attended secretarial school in Richmond and worked for the Adjutant-General of the VA National Guard in the Washington Building on Capital Square.  After several years in Richmond, Dot returned to McKenney in 1953 where she married her childhood sweetheart, David W. Ogburn, Sr., “Doc”, who had grown up with her on the adjacent farm. While living in McKenney, she worked at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Dinwiddie. Her husband tragically died in an automobile accident in February 1963, leaving her with two young children, David Wells, Jr., age 7, and Marjorie Lee, age 11 months.  In July 1966, she married Benjamin E. Baugh, Jr., “Buddy,” and moved to his home in Colonial Heights. It was there that she found her true calling, that of caregiver. Starting with her family and her church family at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, she cared for numerous family members, particularly her mother and Buddy, friends such as Delia Michael, neighbors, and the residents of Colonial Heights Nursing Home and Dunlop House where she volunteered. Dot particularly adored, took pride in, and loved spending time with her five grandchildren Dave, Brandon, Courtney, Matthew, and Kate and watching them as they grew.  Her husband, Buddy, passed in February 1999 after a long illness. Dot continued to be very active and involved with her community, church, friends, and family until Alzheimer’s disease prevented it.  She lived her last years at Commonwealth Senior Living of the West End, about 2 miles from her son, David. She is survived by her children, David, Jr. and his wife Micky and their children David, III, his wife Ali, and daughters Emma and Riley, and Matthew and his wife Nicole; and Marjorie, and her husband John and her children Courtney, her fiancé Zach, and Kate. She is also survived by her younger brother Max Roberts and his wife Cornelia Ann. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Pearl Roberts; husbands David, Sr. and Ben; her older brother, Joe, Jr. and his wife Tommie; and her first grandchild Brandon. Dot enjoyed being outdoors, taking long walks, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and listening to all types of music.  Dot particularly loved her frequent dancing adventures and excursions with Buddy.  Their tombstone will be inscribed, “May you dance in Heaven.” A service followed by her interment conducted by Reverend George Whipple will take place at Concord Presbyterian Church in Rawlings, VA on June 30th at 2:00 pm.  A reception will follow in the Sunday School Building. Dot and her family owe a special thanks to Commonwealth Senior Living and Crater Road Hospice for the care they provided as Dot declined.
