Connie Abernathy Greene

Connie Abernathy Greene, age 84, of Alberta, VA, passed away at her home on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

 A lifelong resident of Alberta, VA, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Marie Abernathy. She was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Greene.

 Connie retired after 37 years of dedicated service to the Brunswick County Public School system. She was an active member of Perseverance Christian Church where she sang in the choir, studied with the praise group, taught Sunday school for many years, and served on various other committees within the church. Connie was an excellent cook, an avid reader, skilled gardener and loved to travel with Charles in her early years. Connie enjoyed visiting shut-ins in the community and friends in nursing homes, as well as orchestrating family gatherings. She will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

 She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles Greene; two sons, Ricky Greene (Debra) and Roger Greene (Lisa); grandchildren, Stephen Greene, Chris Greene (Emily), Beverly Kay Morton, Jackie Morton, Travis Morton (Megan), and Michael Wright (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Evelynn, Masyn, Marilyn, Afton, Arden, and Nora; brothers, Gene Abernathy (Linda), David Abernathy, and Michael Abernathy; a sister, Gail Fathergill (Russ), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many special friends. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Amedisys Hospice, especially Kathy and Christy, for the special treatment and loving care they provided for Connie.

 The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2024 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Perseverance Christian Church in Dundas, VA followed by interment in the church cemetery.
