Charles Young "Chip" Avery, III

Charles Young “Chip” Avery, III, 78, a lifelong resident of McKenney, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles “C.Y.” Avery and Nellie Rideout Avery; his wife, Joan Anita Ellis Avery; and a brother-in-law, Duncan Liles.

Chip was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a lifelong member of McKenney Hunt & Fish Club. He was also a devoted baseball fan and played both baseball and softball throughout his younger years.

Mr. Avery is survived by his sons, Michael S. Avery (Laura) and Allen Keith Avery; grandson, Forrest S. Avery; a sister, Ada Liles; a brother, William R. “Billy” Avery (Sherry); brother-in-law, Charles “Gary” Ellis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, McKenney, VA, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
