Benjamin Douglas Winn, age 83, of Alberta, VA passed away at his home on January 7, 2025 after a long battle with cancer and complications. A lifelong resident of Brunswick County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Saunders Winn and Lelia Jackson Haizlip Winn. Douglas was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Alberta Ruritan Club, Sons of Confederate Veterans Old Brunswick Camp, and Red Oak Hall. He was a devoted New York Yankees fan, a musician, fisherman, hunter, and USA traveler. He retired from VDOT after 42 years of dedicated service. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Acree Winn; daughters, Susan Winn Shomo, Rhonda Winn Hohman (Paul), Sherry Winn Beale (Heath); grandchildren, Lelia Ann Hohman, Susan Elizabeth Hohman, and Charlie Alexander Beale; step grandchildren, Tristan Beale, Jordan Beale, Landan Beale, and Logan Harrup; step great-grandchildren, Ares Beale and Kairo Merritt; a sister, Betty Winn Watson. The family would like to thank Pastor Jonathan Webster and Hospice for their compassion and care. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Bethel United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, c/o Becky Hinkle, 1305 Flat Rock Road, Alberta, VA 23821.
