Barbara Jean O’Neill Miller, 99, formerly of Orange and Stafford, VA, passed away in Blackstone, VA on January 23, 2026.
Barbara was born on June 8, 1926, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Maurice and Irma Donahue O’Neill. She met her husband, Charles W. Miller, of Washington, D.C., while attending a USO Christmas dance in 1943 at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis. They were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis in August, 1944, and remained married for 73 years until Charles “Charlie” passed in 2017. Barbara was predeceased not only by her husband, Charlie, but also their son Michael J. Miller, their daughter Patricia J. Miller Masuret and her son-in-law Sidney J. Brandon, Jr.
Barbara loved life and spending time with family was her greatest joy. Together, Barbara and Charlie had seven children, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and a great great grandchild is due later this year. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a competitive game of dominoes, Scrabble, the card game pitch and bridge. She also enjoyed traveling, particularly to her home state of New Mexico, as well as cooking and entertaining. She and Charlie continued dancing for over seven decades.
Barbara is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Chuck and Jeanette Miller of Culpeper, VA; son-in-law Colonel Don Masuret (Ret.) of South Elgin, IL; daughter-in-law Nancy Miller of Gordonsville, VA; daughter Amelia “Amy” Brandon of Dundas, VA; daughter and son-in-law Elisa and Bob Dickson of Harrison, AR; daughter Nancy Leftwich of Midlothian, VA; and son Pete Miller and Sara Brighty of Haiku, HI. She is also survived by three brothers and their wives in New Mexico, along with many nieces and nephews from coast to coast.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026 at St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Orange, VA, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors prior to Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m.
A special thank you to the nurses at Heritage Hall Nursing Home and Amedysis Hospice in Blackstone, VA. And to her devoted team of caregivers who went above and beyond: Dorothy Gardner, Jasmine Benn, Juanita Hayes, Wanda Eppes, Leslie Freeman, Marilyn Montgomery and Danita Stephenson.
