Annie Ruth Kirk Clarke

Annie Ruth Kirk Clarke went to heaven on Monday, January 24, 2022 after residing at Envoy of Lawrenceville for five years.She was born May 15, 1930, the daughter of Hinda Jones Kirk and Luther Bascom Kirk in Dundas, Virginia. She married the love of her life, Lloyd Emerson Clarke on April 16, 1951. She and Lloyd worked side by side at the family business, Clarke’s Department Store in Lawrenceville until his death in 1982. She and her daughter, Christie Clarke Hales, ran the store together for a number of years. She worked as office manager at the Brunswick Times Gazette until her retirement at age 75. She was a member of Lawrenceville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years. Mrs. Clarke is survived by her children, Ruth Anne Clarke of Chesapeake City, Maryland, Christie C. Hales (Gil) of Lawrenceville, and Mark Lloyd Clarke and his special friend, Deborah Smith of Richmond; her grandchildren, Daniel Clarke Mason, Wyatt Ranft Mason, Lannie Kirk Hales, Nicholas Clarke, and Haley Clarke. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Dennis Morgan, John Richard Kirk, and Virginia Peebles. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at Lawrenceville Baptist Church followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
